Tips for Saving Money while Flying

Photo on 6-20-13 at 1.48 PMThe travel process has begun!! Here I am sitting at the airport, checked in and passing through security with no issues as always πŸ™‚ (I’m too much of a rule-follower to not manage that, at least in the US).

Since I don’t have much going on right now, I thought it would be fun to share a few tips that I’ve picked up about traveling:

1. Bring your own water bottle.Β

Don’t put any liquid in it, but it is perfectly acceptable to take an empty water bottle through security to fill with water after you are through. If you are flying internationally (like me), a filtered water bottle is a good idea.

2. Bring your own snacks.Β

Simple. After all, with budget cuts these days, you can’t even get free peanuts anymore! I’m surprised they still give you drinks during your flight. But, you can take any kind of snack you want, and its WAY cheaper than buying them at the airport. My snacks of choice today are almonds, dark chocolate, dried fruit, and granola bars.

3. Pack light

Honestly, why do you need such big carry ons? Get the little square/rectangular rolling type for “overnight” stuff, a little bag, back-pack, and you are good to go! And oddly enough, I kept my under-carriage bag under 50lbs and somehow it was free. Maybe overseas flights don’t charge for that. Either way, the less you can take, the better. Period. If you can get it all in a bigger carry-on, you won’t have to worry about under-carriage fees or losing your luggage. And ladies, put those purses to use! That’s practically a third bag!

Those are my top three ladies and gents! Maybe I will add more later as I go along today. Thanks for reading!
